If you’re not already familiar with Moon<\/em>, the Sam Rockwell tour-de-force directed by Duncan Jones, then you truly have no idea what you’re missing. It was only Jones’ first directorial effort, but it was enough to establish him as one of the finest independent science fiction filmmakers working today. Not only was Moon<\/em> original with a brilliant high-concept premise, but it was also wonderfully acted with beautiful visuals and set designs that shouldn’t have been possible on the movie’s shoestring budget.<\/p>\n

So now, a trailer’s just been released for Jones’ sophomore effort, and all I have to say is “Oh, fuck yes!<\/a>”<\/p>\n

I don’t know anything about the premise of Source Code<\/em> beyond what’s stated in the trailer, and judging from how Moon <\/em>went, that’s how I’d like to keep it. Suffice to say that while the ways and means of this virtual technology are still a touch iffy, this seems like a neat new twist on the post-modern VR subgenre of science fiction (with The Matrix<\/em> being its most famous example). Additionally, I’m seeing some very intriguing stuff here from Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Monaghan is looking good.<\/p>\n

I also notice that Clint Mansell will be composing the score for this movie. After the outstanding job he did for Jones on Moon<\/em>, not to mention his legendary work with Darren Aronofsky<\/a>, his involvement here can only be a good thing. Furthermore, the trailer makes it abundantly clear that this movie gives Jones a bigger budget to play with. Again, this can only be a good thing.<\/p>\n

Source Code<\/em> is set for release on April 15th of next year. I sincerely hope that it doesn’t fall through the cracks as Moon<\/em> did. However his next film ends up, there’s no denying that Duncan Jones has the kind of boundless creativity that Hollywood needs more of. This guy needs a big break and I’d love to see him get it soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
