Movie Curiosities

The online diary of an aspiring movie nerd

The 27th Birthday Requests

ByCuriosity Inc.

Jun 4, 2014

As longtime readers will know, I like to celebrate my birthday by taking on a special project in the days before July 18th. And this year, I thought I’d open it up to you, my wonderful audience.

I’m taking requests for films to watch and review for this year’s birthday project. About seven to ten should do. So if there’s a film out there that you’d like me to write about, some classic you think I should see, an underappreciated gem I should spread the word about, or a film you just really like, let me know about it.

Please put your requests in the comments below, send me a message on Facebook or Twitter, or shoot me an e-mail at curiosityinc@gmail.com. Let me know what you want me to write about and we’ll see what shakes loose.

Thanks for reading!

I hold a B.S. in Bioinformatics, the only one from Pacific University's Class of '09. I was the stage-hand-in-chief of my high school drama department and I'm a bass drummer for the Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers. I dabble in video games and I'm still pretty good at DDR. My primary hobby is going online for upcoming movie news. I am a movie buff, a movie nerd, whatever you want to call it. Comic books are another hobby, but I'm not talking about Superman or Spider-Man or those books that number in the triple-digits. I'm talking about Watchmen, Preacher, Sandman, etc. Self-contained, dramatic, intellectual stories that couldn't be accomplished in any other medium. I'm a proud son of Oregon, born and raised here. I've been just about everywhere in North and Central America and I love it right here.

  1. I posted some suggestions earlier but a few were ones I’m sure you’ve seen (like Fight Club, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, JFK). If you want to do any of those than great but I’ve decided to narrow it down a bit to ones I’m not sure you’ve seen. The Apartment, Life of Brain, Cinema Paradiso, Judgment at Nuremberg, Sweet Smell of Success, Cool Hand Luke, Badlands, The Thin Red Line, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. It’s your project so do which ever ones you want.

  2. The Hidden
    The Last Starfighter
    The Phantom
    Critters
    Masters of the Universe

I figure if everyone else is asking for stuff like Pusher, Tree of Life, and stuff like that- I’d rather see you review one of my more carefree favorites.

  3. I could suggest Night Moves, Krull, The Deadly Spawn, Vampire’s Kiss, The Wall and Synecdoche, New York to name a few. Good to have a bit of diversity with some schlock, some more recent pictures and some unusual films.

  4. I’m never quite sure what movies you’ve seen, so you may not want to revisit them if you have already seen them, but here’s some suggestions:

The Silence of the Lambs – I was just thinking about this movie the other day. It’s a masterpiece, and one worth talking about. I’m sure you’d dig it.

Do the Right Thing – I suspect you haven’t seen this one, but one of the most important movies you’ll ever watch.

Dazed and Confused – A movie with no real plot, which makes me curious to know what you would think of it. I love it, at any rate.

Before Sunrise – Another Richard Linklater movie, one of my favourite romances. And the first in a pretty great series of movies.

  5. It’s appreciated, Anonymous, but the entries have all been written and the schedule is locked down. Still, those are all great ideas and I’d love to get to them soon.
